When Qin Gang, the foreign minister, from public view in June, it was particularly conspicuous given his diplomatic role. It was almost a month before authorities that he had been removed from his post. A few weeks later, China’s defence minister, also at scheduled meetings with foreign officials. Reuters has reported that he is being investigated over corruption in military procurement. The two most senior generals overseeing nuclear and conventional land-based missiles had at the beginning of August. One was taken away by corruption investigators.

The chair of China’s Evergrande Group has reportedly been put under police surveillance as another missed bond payment casts further doubt over the future of the world’s most indebted property developer.
Hui Ka Yan, who founded Evergrande in 1996, was taken away earlier this month and is being monitored at a designated location, according to Bloomberg.
